Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a four and a half year programme. The University admits 100 students every year for this programme. Thirty percent of the seats are reserved for candidates of Uttarakhand. The programme is recognized by the Medical Council of India. All the students pursuing this programme are required to complete a one year rotatory Internship as per the norms of the Medical Council of India.

Admission Procedure: Every year in the month of May, the University conducts the all India level Pre Medical Entrance Examination (PMEE). A merit list is prepared based on this examination. The candidates are called for counseling in the month of June/July. The session starts in August.

The information brochure is made available by the University sometime in the month of January of the admission year. Information regarding the availability of the brochure is widely publicized through national newspapers.

Thirty percent of the seats are earmarked for candidates of Uttarakhand. The programmes are all recognized by the Medical Council of India.

Age: A candidate who has completed at least 17 years of age as of 31st December of the year of admission is eligible.

Qualification and Minimum Marks: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 i.e. ISC/Intermediate examination or it’s equivalent, after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of such study, comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English from a recognized board/ university and the candidate must have passed in all the subjects. The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 60% (for SC/ST/OBC candidates 50%) marks in aggregate taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and atleast 50% (for SC/ST/OBC candidates 45%) marks separately in each of the above subjects in the qualifying examination.

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination and whose results are not available are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination. However, they must submit the marks sheet on or before the date specified in the information brochure.

Pattern of Pre Medical Entrance Examination: The entrance examination will be objective type with multiple choice answers (A,B,C,D) out of which only one shall be the most appropriate answer. The examination paper consists of 200 questions and the subject wise distribution will be Physics – 40, Chemistry – 60, Biology – 100. Each correct answer shall be awarded ONE mark. Zero marks shall be given to ‘no response’ and ‘incorrect’ answers. More than one choice indicated against the question shall be considered as an incorrect response and ZERO marks will be given. There is no negative marking. The duration of the examination will be 2 ½ hours (150 minutes)

Syllabus: The syllabus for the Pre Medical Entrance Examination will be as per the 10 + 2 examination (CBSE/ICSE/ISC/ Uttarakhand Board or their equivalent). The question paper will be in English only.

Candidates who secure a minimum of 50% marks in the Pre Medical Entrance Examination shall be considered eligible for admission to the MBBS course. However, selection will be made on the basis of merit.

Note:

1. The fees for First Professional shall apply till the candidate passes out of the First Professional Exam.

2. The candidate must pass II Professional, Final Professional Part I & Final Professional Part II in 42 months, otherwise extra fees shall be charged, Rs. 4,50,000/-/- for every six months.

3. Above fee does not include enrolment fee (Rs.2000/- (one time)) & charges for hepatitis B Vaccination.

4. Above fee does not include charges for hostel and mess. Additional charges for extra utilities will be levied as appropriate.

5. The candidate cannot withdraw from the course after the last date of admission i.e. 30th September of admission year. As per the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the University may ask for the fees for the whole course before the candidate is allowed to withdraw from the programme.

The above fees are subject to revision from time to time.

Fee Refund Policy: If the candidate desires to withdraw from the programme, he may do so before 30th September of the admission year. The University will refund the tuition fee in full.

Scholarship: The University has provision for merit cum means scholarships for students admitted to the University.

Eligibility Criteria: (i) A candidate, who holds an MBBS degree from a recognized medical college or a foreign medical degree included in the schedules of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and who has obtained full registration either from the Medical Council of India (MCI) or from any of the State Medical Councils after completing compulsory rotating internship, shall be eligible to take this examination.

(ii) A candidate, who after passing the final qualifying examination (MBBS or the foreign medical degree recognized by MCI), is undergoing a 12 month compulsory rotating internship and is likely to complete the same by 31st March of the admission year, can also take up this examination. The candidate must produce a certificate from the head of the institution that he/she will be completing internship by 31st March of the admission year. But he/she will not be eligible for admission unless he/she has completed the compulsory rotating internship and obtained full registration on or before 31st March of the admission year.

(iii) The cut-off dates for the recognition of Medical Colleges for the year of admission will be 31st October of the previous year. The colleges recognized after this date will not be considered.

Examination Pattern: (i) There will be one paper of 3 (three) hours duration containing 250 Multiple Choice Questions consisting of all the subjects of MBBS (Graduate) curriculum.

(ii) The questions will be single response objective type. For each correct response a candidate shall be awarded four marks. One mark will be deducted for every wrong response. Zero mark will be given for the questions not attempted. More than one answer indicated against a question will be considered as an incorrect response and one mark will be deducted.

(iii) The approximate number of questions from each subject will be as given below:-

Anatomy (10), Physiology (10), Biochemistry (10), Pharmacology (10), Pathology (15), Microbiology (10), Forensic Medicine (10), Social and Preventive Medicine (15), Ophthalmology (10), ENT (10), Medicine & allied (50), Surgery & allied (50), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (30) and Paediatrics (10).

Selection: Candidates who secure a minimum of 50% marks in the Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination shall be considered for admission for Postgraduate Medical Courses. A merit list shall be prepared by the University based on the Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination results. Based on this merit list, the candidates are required to choose the course of their choice at the time of counseling.

The Para Medical College of the University is one of its kind in Uttrakhand. Admission Procedure:

Graduate Paramedical Courses

Age: Candidates should have completed 17 years of age by the 31st of December of the admission year.

Qualification and minimum marks: The candidates must have passed the 10+2, i.e. ISC/Intermediate examination or its equivalent examination of any recognized Indian Board / University with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English subjects with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together for BPT and 45% marks for all other courses. In respect of candidates belonging to Schedule Castes / Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics taken together in the qualifying examination shall be 45% for BPT and 40% for all other courses. Students who are foreign nationals/non-resident Indians/persons of Indian origin must have passed an examination, which is equivalent to the Higher Secondary (Std. XII) examination in India. The student must obtain certificate of equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, before admission.

Selection will be made on the basis of the merit list.

Post Graduate Paramedical Course (Master of Physiotherapy)

Qualification and minimum marks: Candidates must have passed the BPT from any recognized University and must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Students who are foreign nationals/non-resident Indians/persons of Indian origin must obtain a certificate of equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, before admission.

Selection will be made on the basis of the merit list.

Admission Fee – Rs. 10,000/- (One time)

Tuition Fee – Rs. 1,00,000/- per year

Security deposit – Rs. 10,000/- (Refundable upon completion of the course only)

Total – Rs. 1,20,000/-

Qualification and minimum marks: Candidates must have passed the 10+2, i.e. I.C.S.E / Intermediate examination or its equivalent examination by recognized Indian Board / University in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics subjects and must have secured a minimum of 45% marks. The candidate must have passed in English in the 12th standard.

For the DNT Course candidates should have passed the B.Sc. Physics / Electronics / Computer science with minimum 2nd division in qualifying examination / Diploma in electronic / electrical / instrumentation / 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Math with 50% marks taken together in all subjects / Diploma in Computer / EEG/ 2 years Institutional experience in EEG.

Selection will be made on the basis of merit

Students admitted in 2009-2010

The International Electives programme at the University is an “observational experience” for applicants from various countries. Although students are not allowed to directly intervene in patient management, participants in the programme get an opportunity to gather knowledge of tropical diseases and local health problems, with a basic insight into modern and Indian systems of health care.

The duration of the programme is a minimum of four uninterrupted weeks. The applicants are expected to make personal travel plans before and after their elective experience. It is essential for candidates to be proficient in the English language to avoid any communication problems. The University may ask the candidate to produce evidence of proficiency in the Enlgish language.

Applicants need to provide proof of a good academic record from the respective University/College. The applicant should ensure that he/she has taken necessary steps for international travel such as immunization etc. It is advisable for the candidate to have necessary medical insurance coverage.

Accommodation facilities are available for electives candidates, subject to the availability of rooms. Presently the boarding & lodging charges are Rs.30,000/- per month. The charges are subject to change.Only vegetarian meals are served. Transportation is available on a payment basis.

Candidates are required to abide by the rules and regulations of the University. Violation of any of the University’s rules may result in immediate termination of the candidate from the programme.

A merit list is prepared based on this examination. The candidates are called for counseling in the month of July. The session starts from August.

Eligibility Criteria:

For Fresh Graduates:

The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in MBBS / BDS / BAMS / BHMS / BNYS / BPT/BSc Nursing (Basic or Post Basic)/B.Pharma/BSc in Allied Health Sciences/Bachelor degree in Arts/ Commerce/Science/Law from a recognized university with a course duration of 3 years with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.

Candidates appearing at the final year examination of the Bachelor’s degree or waiting for the results of their final year degree examinations are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be given provisional admission. They will be required to produce evidence of their graduation within two months of the start of the session.

For working executives:

For Working executive a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized University with a duration of three years in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate. Minimum of two years’ relevant work experience in the healthcare sector.

Working executives, should apply through their employers if already employed, or through the sponsoring agency if being sponsored. Working executives should also indicate whether they will be sponsored by their organisations or will be self-sponsored.”

Examination Pattern: (i) There will be one paper of 1½ hours (90 Minutes) duration containing 120 Multiple Choice Questions.

(ii) The questions will be single response objective type. For each correct response, a candidate shall be awarded four marks. One mark will be deducted for every wrong response. Zero mark will be given for the questions not attempted. More than one answer indicated against a question will be considered as incorrect response and will attract one negative mark.

(iii) The tentative number of questions from each subject will be as given below:-

General Knowledge (20), Mass Media-Print/Electronic (20), Management (10), Law & Administration (15), Forensic Medicine (10), Social and Preventive Medicine (20), National Health Programme (15) and Apptitude (10).

The examination will be conducted in English medium only.

Selection: A merit list shall be prepared by the University based on the all India level Master in Hospital Administration Entrance Examination (MHAEE) Results.

Note:

In case a candidate is not able to complete the course in stipulated period of time, extra fees shall be charged.

If a candidate withdraws his/her candidature before 21st August of admission year, he/she will forfeit the admission fee.

If he/ she discontinues the course after 21st August of admission year, he/ she has to deposit fees for entire course.

The University is offering the following Ph.D. Programme in the following fields:

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have a Master’s Degree in the relevant subject of this University or any other recognised University and must have passed the qualifying examination in the first attempt with at least 60% marks.

Where a Master’s Degrees has been awarded without specifying the marks obtained, the candidate must have obtained a minimum of 55% of the aggregate marks in the professional examinations of the relevant Bachelor’s Degree.

Admission Procedure: The programme commences every year January & July. The University will start the process of admission 6 (six) months before commencement of the course.

Prospective candidates shall apply for admission to the Ph.D Program in the prescribed application form on or before the last date as prescribed by the University.

An Entrance Examination will be conducted by the University. All candidates shall appear in the Entrance Examination. A candidate who secures a minimum of 50% marks in the Entrance Examination shall be considered eligible for admission into the Ph.D program of the University.

A candidate who has qualified in the UGC/CSIR/(JRF) Examination/ SLET/ GATE/ teacher fellowship holder or who has been awarded the M.Phil Degree shall be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Examination.

Candidates who have passed the Entrance Examination will be asked to submit their Synopsis.

The candidate shall also be required to submit the undertakings/certificate for proof of their funding source. It is desirable for all the candidates to have a funding source for their Ph.D research. However, in case of internal candidate (employee of the University), this requirement may be waived.

Candidates working under Central Govt./State Govt./Semi Govt./Autonomous organization shall submit their applications through proper channels i.e. through the employer. They will also be required to submit a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their employer before they are allowed to join the Ph.D Course.

Employees of HIHT University intending to register for Ph.D program shall submit their application through their respective Head of the Institution. The selection procedure for these candidates shall be the same as for external candidates.

Foreign nationals are required to send their applications through Diplomatic Channel. They are also required to appear in the Competitive Entrance Examination along with other candidates.

The admission committee shall short-list the candidates for provisional registration in the Ph.D. programme based on the performance of the candidates in the Entrance Examination (60% weightage), comments from the Department (20% weightage) and assessment report of the Ph.D Research Committee (20% weightage). Those candidates who have been exempted from the entrance examination shall be assessed on comments of the respective department (50%) and Ph.D Research Committee assessment (50%).

Based on the predetermined number of seats in the relevant department, provisional registration shall be given to eligible/qualified candidates after completion of all formalities including deposit of fees as prescribed by the University.

The last date for joining is 28th February for the January session and 31st August for the July session.
